Comic Con Liverpool 25’ retrospective
Comic Con Liverpool is a standout pop-culture weekend in the diary, but Monopoly Events’ flagship convention in 2025 felt like something special for Star Wars fans. Monopoly had a pretty prolific year for Star Wars fans, but this one was a knockout in terms of the lineup. I could only make it for part of one day of the two-day event, and although being very time poor I decided it was an opportunity I couldn’t miss.
The Star Wars guest list was next level, and celebration-esque. With John Boyega, Temuera Morrison, Daniel Logan, Joonas Suotamo, Alastair Petrie, Katee Sackhoff, Kyle Soller, Genevieve O’Reilly, and Emilia Clarke all under one roof, it felt like a bit of a crescendo to the luck the UK has been having when it comes to Star Wars guests at Cons. Comic Con Liverpool might have topped the lot.
Despite the scale of it being Monopoly’s flagship event, the autograph experience was smooth and surprisingly personal for all the guests I met. Guests were spread across multiple autograph halls, and while the biggest names drew the longest queues, it was managed well. The lines moved at a decent pace, though I found they struck a balance to allow for something of a meaningful interaction. In just a few hours, despite having to dart between halls I was able to meet Katee Sackhoff, Genevieve O’Reilly, Kyle Soller, Joonas Suotamo, and John Boyega. Unbelievable when I think about it.
I find getting an autograph to always be memorable, but Genevieve O’Reilly genuinely stood out. She showed such kindness and attention to everybody in her queue, making everyone feel like the only person in the room. Her willingness to chat and connect was amazing.
I also found time to dip into the wider convention floor. As is typical for Monopoly Events, the vendor selection leaned heavily toward Funkos, a scattering of figures and comics, trinkets, 3D-printed pieces, and a handful of artists offering prints and commissions. All fun to browse, especially if it’s your first event in a while, but for those who attend multiple cons like this, there wasn’t too much variety. The prop area was impressive and added a bit of visual spectacle to the floor.
Where the convention truly stood apart however, aside from the cosplay offered by hoards of dedicated fans, was its guest list and the strength of its panels. With so many major Star Wars actors in attendance, the chance to meet so many actors in one whirlwind day made the trip entirely worthwhile.
Opportunities like this don’t come around often, and the UK has been remarkably fortunate in attracting such exceptional Star Wars talent. I’ll absolutely be keeping an eye on the guest announcements for next year—if Monopoly Events pulls off another lineup even half as strong as 2025’s, it will be hard to pass it up.
